Pot grown trees have become increasingly popular. They are grown in pots from sapling size, this makes for a stronger core root ball, and unlike cut trees, this means that they are still alive! Not to be confused with potted trees, which are only placed in a pot when harvested.
Pot grown trees can go on to survive for many years. To keep them in a pot we recommend transferring to a larger pot and keep them well fed & watered, especially during hot dry weather. You can also plant them out into open ground – spring & autumn are the best times of year to do this.
There is no guarantee of survival. Some trees do not like the environmental change of being transferred into a home and back outside again. Some trees will not like being planted out into open ground. But they will all last a lot longer than a traditional cut tree.
